At least 25 people, including women and children, were killed and three seriously injured when a bus carrying a passenger bus crashed into a river in Rajasthan, India, police said. The bus fell into the river from a bridge on the Kota-Dausa highway in Bundi district early Wednesday morning, NDTV reported.
Assistant Police Inspector Rajendra Kumar told PTI over phone that the bus was traveling from Kota to Sawai Madhupur in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
He said there was no railing at the river bridge. Five people died on the spot. Others died on the way to hospital or later in treatment. Rajendra Kumar confirmed that there were seven women and at least three children among the dead.
With the help of local villagers, the injured were rescued first at the Written Government Hospital and then the seriously injured at Kota Government Hospital.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gale has expressed deep condolences in a tweet confirming the death of 25 people in the accident.
