Abul Kalam Azad is the new chairman of Chittagong port

The government has appointed Real Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad as the chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority. He previously served as chairman of the Mongla Port Authority. The Public Administration Ministry issued the order on Sunday (22th March).

Mongla Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad has been appointed as the Chittagong Port Authority and his job has been transferred to the Ministry of Naval Affairs. Chittagong Port Authority Chairman Rear Admiral Zulfiqar Aziz has been assigned to the Armed Forces to return to the Navy.

Rear Admiral Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad was born on 30th April, 1967 to a noble Muslim family of Kumarakhali upazila of Kushtia district. His father is Sheikh Osman Gani and his mother is Mrs. Khodeja Begum.

He joined the Bangladesh Navy on January 1985 and received commission in the Executive Branch. Rear Admiral Abul Kalam Azad signed credentials in various professional courses at home and abroad.

He completed international sub-lieutenant courses from the Royal Naval College in the UK and elementary staff courses from the Royal Naval College in London, Turkish language courses and songwriting specialization courses from Turkey, International Humanitarian 'Law' courses from India, USA. In addition, he completed the NDC course from the National Defense College.

He is a former student of Pabna Cadet College. During his service, Rear Admiral Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad performed important duties on various ships and bases. He has served as director of various ships, including director, frigate, at various departments of Dhaka and Naval Headquarters. He also served as the commander of Banuja Titumir and Banauja Isa Khan.

He also served as Director of the Legal and Media Wing of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) headquarters, Contingent Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Civil Military Relations of the Armed Forces Division. He is always committed to engage in the service of the country, embracing the spirit of the great war of liberation and the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

He has received numerous accolades for his outstanding workmanship and professionalism. In recognition of his professionalism and distinguished service in the Bangladesh Navy, he was awarded the "Navy Glory Medal".

Rear Admiral Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad is an English, Turkish and French language officer. He is very interested in sports and other activities. He loves to play golf and read books. In his personal life, Begum Naomi Naharin, the wife of Rear Admiral Sheikh Abul Kalam Azad, is the father of a son and a daughter.
