Workers loot rice and fruit cars in Agrabad, Chittagong Agrabad

Housing is no longer acceptable to people. Lack of lost knowledge, workers have looted freight cars on the roads demanding arrears of wages and relief.

The incident took place on the main road in front of the St. Martin Hotel in Chittagong's Agrabad Commercial Area on Saturday (18th April). Later the police took control of the situation.

Eyewitnesses said that from this morning hundreds of workers took to the main road of Agrabad to protest for demand for wages and relief. Workers blocked the road from a freight-laden car with a few sacks of rice and a few cartons of fruit.

The driver of the car also became helpless to the workers. Policemen stationed at the time recovered a carton of fruit from the workers, but the rest could not.

It is reported that several hundred workers of a garment factory in Frank group blocked the road. The factory was also closed when the government declared a general holiday due to coronavirus.

However, workers blocked the road and protested for lack of pay last month and demanded relief.

Sadim Das, acting officer of Doublemurring police station, said, “Hundreds of workers take to the streets. They marched to demand payment. The owner was contacted immediately.

They pledged to pay salaries on 28th April. Later, the workers were persuaded and removed. '

Chittagong Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (PR) Abu Bakar Siddique said, "Workers of a factory of the Frank Group blocked the main road in front of the St. Martin Hotel in Agrabad Commercial Area demanding arrears of wages and relief." Later, the police came and normalized the situation.
